Oscar Isaac Hernández Estrada was born in the United States on March 9, 1979. Soon after, he began studying acting at the renowned Juilliard School of Drama, where he played many minor roles for most of the 2000s.

His performance as José Ramos-Horta in the 2009 Australian film Balibo garnered Isaac the AACTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. His breakthrough role was as a singer in the Coen brothers’ black comedy Inside Llewyn Davis (2013), for which he received a Golden Globe nomination. It was after he had been in minor roles in films including Body of Lies (2008), Robin Hood (2010), and Drive (2013). (2011).

Isaac’s career grew with leading roles in A Most Violent Year (2014), Ex Machina (2015), and X-Men: Apocalypse (2016). (2016). With his leading role as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequel trilogy (2015–2019), he gained a global celebrity. Since then, he has appeared in the science fiction films Annihilation (2018) and Dune (2021), as well as the crime drama The Card Counter (2021)

On television, Isaac has featured in the HBO miniseries Show Me a Hero (2015) and Scenes from a Marriage (2021). He received the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Miniseries or Television Film for his performance as Nick Wasicsko. In 2022, he played the lead character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series Moon Knight for the Disney+ streaming service.

Óscar Isaac Hernández Estrada was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala to a Guatemalan mother, María Eugenia Estrada Nicolle, and a Cuban father, a doctor named  Óscar Gonzalo Hernández-Cano. His older sister is the climate scientist Nicole Hernandez Hammer, and his younger brother is the journalist Mike Hernandez. Isaac’s family immigrated to the United States when he was five months old and frequently moved, ending in Miami, Florida. His evangelical upbringing has been described as “very Christian.” In addition to claiming French ancestry through his grandpa, he has described himself as a “certainly large mixture of various things.”

Growing up, Isaac caused issues at his private grade school, Westminster Christian. He said, “I set off a fire extinguisher in the gym and destroyed a mural; just foolish stuff.” He enjoyed making children laugh. His teacher had to use cardboard to separate his desk from the rest of the classroom at one point. Eventually, he was ejected.

Isaac’s professional acting career began when Artistic Director John Rodaz cast him in a play at Area Stage Company, Miami Beach. In 2000–2001, he also performed in the Miami-based City Theatre’s Summer Shorts short play festival. He played lead guitar and sang for the ska-punk band The Blinking Underdogs in Miami. Nick Speck (bass), Bill Sommer (drums), Alan Mills (trombone), Keith Cooper (saxophone), and Matt LaPlant were other band members (guitar). In addition to opening for Green Day and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. A “straight edge” lifestyle marked Isaac’s musical years. In 2001, Isaac abandoned music after getting accepted into the acting programme at the famous Juilliard School in New York. While a student, he worked on All About the Benjamins, one of his first films (2002). He was a member of Group 34 of the Drama Division from 2001 until 2005.

1996-2010

Isaac made his acting debut as “Pool Boy” in the 1996 crime drama Illtown. Next, he made a brief appearance in the 2002 film All About the Benjamins and, four years later, on the television series Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Isaac’s first significant film performance as Saint Joseph in the 2006 biblical epic The Nativity Story, with Keisha Castle-Hughes, earned him recognition. He played Romeo in Shakespeare in the Park performances of Romeo and Juliet at the Public Theater and Proteus in Two Gentlemen of Verona.

Isaac had a supporting role in Guerrilla, Part Two of the Che Guevara biopic Che (2008). He won the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as José Ramos-Horta in Balibo in 2009. (2009). In the same year, Isaac played the Roman prefect Orestes in the film Agora by Alejandro Amenábar. He portrayed King John in Robin Hood (2010).

2011–2014

In 2013, Isaac attended the New York premiere of Won’t Back Down. Alongside Abbie Cornish, he portrayed a security officer in the Madonna-directed historical romantic drama W.E. Also released in September 2011 was the Nicolas Winding Refn crime drama Drive, in which he appeared. In 10 Years, he had a position as a musician. In the film, he performed his song “Never Had.” “Never Had” and “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere” were featured on the film’s soundtrack.

In the 2013 drama-comedy Inside Llewyn Davis, written and directed by the Coen brothers, Isaac portrayed a gifted but unsuccessful folk musician in 1961 Greenwich Village. At the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, the film won the Grand Prix.

Isaac was nominated for the 2014 Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his performance as Llewyn. He replaced Javier Bardem in J. C. Chandor’s 2014 film A Most Violent Year, in which he co-starred with Jessica Chastain.

2015–present

In 2015, Isaac portrayed Nathan Hamlet Bateman in the science fiction film Ex Machina and appeared in the 6-episode HBO miniseries Show Me a Hero. He won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Miniseries or Television Film to portray politician Nick Wasicsko.

Isaac portrayed X-wing pilot Poe Dameron in the 2015 epic space opera film Star Wars: The Force Awakens, released on December 18. Star Wars: The Last Jedi, released on December 15, 2017, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019), the last installment in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, both see him reprising the role.

In the May 27, 2016, blockbuster X-Men: Apocalypse, Isaac portrayed the X-Men villain Apocalypse.

In the same year, he starred alongside Christian Bale in The Promise’s historical drama, a story about the Armenian genocide. He voiced Wieden+Kennedy’s “Unlimited You” Nike commercial. (Reference needed) The first episode of the audio series Homecoming was released in November 2016. It is a six-episode psychological thriller from Gimlet Media starring Catherine Keener and David Schwimmer; Oscar Isaac provides the voice of a soldier attempting to reintegrate into civilian life.

Isaac portrayed Prince Hamlet in The Public Theater’s Hamlet performance in July 2017, starring Keegan-Michael Key, Ritchie Coster, Gayle Rankin, Roberta Colindrez, and Anatol Yusef.

Sam Gold oversaw the production until September 2017. Both critics and audiences praised his performance. In the same year, Isaac participated in the George Clooney-directed and Coen Brothers-penned black comedy Suburbicon. It was his second role in a film written by the Coens, following Inside Llewyn Davis.

In the cinematic version of the novel Annihilation, Isaac co-starred alongside Natalie Portman as her character’s husband.

The role is Isaac’s second collaboration with director Alex Garland, following Ex Machina. Isaac was cast as Duke Leto Atreides in the 2021 Denis Villeneuve film Dune at the end of January 2019. Isaac was released in the 2019 Paul Schrader film The Card Counter and played as ex-CAG agent Pope in the J. C. Chandor-directed action-adventure picture Triple Frontier. In the 2022 Disney+ series Moon Knight, Isaac plays the titular character. Isaac will star in and adapt the graphic novel Ex Machina, The Great Machine.

Isaac is also going to star in the Ben Stiller-directed film London. In December 2020, he reported that Isaac would play Solid Snake in Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ cinematic adaption of Metal Gear Solid. In October 2021, he was cast alongside Christopher Walken and Sam Rockwell in an untitled project written and directed by Martin McDonagh.

Multiple media publications, including Rolling Stone magazine, have called Isaac a sex symbol and “the Internet’s Boyfriend,” but he has expressed skepticism about the moniker. In 2016, Time included Isaac on its annual Time 100 list of the 100 most essential individuals in the world. Vanity Fair named Isaac the “greatest damn actor of his generation” in 2017. In 2020, The New York Times ranked him fourteenth on its list of the twenty-first century’s top 25 actors.

In December of 2007, he proposed to Maria Miranda. During an interview in 2010, he mentioned having a wife. In February 2017, he wed Danish film director Elvira Lind, whom he met in 2012.

Eugene was born in April 2017, and Mads was born in October 2019. The household is located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Isaac is a naturalized citizen of the United States. He speaks both English and Spanish.
