Thomas’s Littlefield Career
According to the Avalanche-Journal, Thomas was Littlefield’s head coach and AD since February 2021 when he was hired.
Jimmy Thomas, a former Bushland Coach, is the new hire for the Littlefield Wildcats. Thomas, upon learning that he was on the finalist list, said: “They’ve had lots of tradition and I’m going to be honest.” It’s an honor and a humble honor to be selected to lead this initiative.
A-J records show that the Fritch native and West Texas A&M Alumnus led the Bushland Falcons’ to a 47-25 record in six seasons. These included reaching the Class 4A Division II finals in 2017, and finishing with a 12-1 record at the Class 3A Division I regional round.
Thomas accepted a Channing managerial job in June 2020. He had been Bushland’s head football coach since 2016. Thomas was the head coach at Bushland High School, but there was no football. This meant that his Friday night light spot went unfilled for 16 years. The A-J had previously heard him say that it took him only a semester to realize the extent of his loss.
Thomas employed at Littlefield by Jason, his youngest son, who had just graduated in 2019 from Bushland. Jason was also enrolled at Texas Tech. His in-laws lived in Clovis, New Mexico. So it was a matter of timing being perfect.
Thomas thought about it and said, “I guess that was all part God’s plan.” “When coaching is concerned, I can assure my clients that I will not take anything for granted. Man, I’m excited. It was probably a trick to get us in.
