Early Years
Jonathan Lyndale Kirk, better known as DaBaby, was born on December 22, 1991, in Cleveland, Ohio.
He is the eldest of three kids, and his family relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1999. After graduating from Vance High School in 2010, DaBaby attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for two years.
He has expressed his gratitude for his academic experience by saying, “I didn’t even know what major I wanted to pursue in college.
I just went to school because my parents required it.” DaBaby’s father died in 2019, while his younger brother Glenn died in 2020 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Career
DaBaby’s music career began in 2015 with the release of the mixtape “Nonfiction,” which he released under the name Baby Jesus.
“So Disrespectful” and “The 10 Minute Mixtape” were released later that year, followed by “God’s Work” and “God’s Work Resurrected” in 2016.
“Baby Talk,” “Baby Talk 2,” “Billion Dollar Baby,” “Baby Talk 3,” “Back On My Baby Jesus Shit,” and “Baby Talk 4” were his six mixtapes released in 2017.
After seeing DaBaby perform in North Carolina clubs, South Coast Music Group president Arnold Taylor signed him. DaBaby signed a distribution deal with Jay-entertainment Z’s business, Roc Nation, to release the 2018 mixtape “Blank Blank” through South Coast.
Because of the mixtape’s success, record labels competed for DaBaby’s services, and he eventually got a seven-figure deal with Interscope.
On March 1, 2019, he released his debut studio album, “Baby on Baby,” which included the singles “Suge” and “Baby Sitter” (featuring Offset).

Personal Experiences
DaBaby is the father of two daughters. MeMe, his ex-girlfriend, is the mother of his older daughter and has a son from a prior relationship, Caleb, whom DaBaby refers to as “the oldest of my three.”
When it came to religion, he said, “I’m fortunate. Christ’s blood has covered me.”
In 2018, two armed males approached DaBaby while he and his family were shopping at a Walmart in Huntersville, North Carolina. A fight ensued, and one of the men, Jalyn Craig, 19, died from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
DaBaby confessed his involvement in the incident and said that security camera evidence would demonstrate he was acting in self-defense.
He was convicted of concealing a handgun in June 2019 and sentenced to a year of unsupervised probation.
He was interrogated during a robbery investigation in Miami in early 2020, after members of his gang allegedly robbed and assaulted a music promoter who owed DaBaby $10,000.
They allegedly took $80, a credit card, and an iPhone 7 from the victim. DaBaby was detained in Miami after investigators obtained a warrant for his arrest in Texas related to a battery charge.
He was charged with violence in connection with the heist in Miami, but he was released after 48 hours in custody.
DaBaby slapped a female fan while making his way to the stage at a concert in Tampa, Florida in 2020, causing the audience to boo him.
He departed the venue without singing a single song, and he later claimed that he smacked the woman because she held her phone too close to his face while recording with the flash turned on.
According to him, “I’m sorry if the person on the other end of that flashlight on their phone was a woman. But keep in mind that I couldn’t see you since the flash was so near to me.”
DaBaby made homophobic remarks during Miami’s Rolling Loud Festival in July 2021, and his appearances at Lollapalooza, the Governors Ball Music Festival, Austin City Limits Festival, Parklife Festival, iHeartRadio Music Festival, Day N Vegas, and Music Midtown were cancelled.
Just weeks after releasing his 100-piece summer collection, the fashion label BoohooMAN stated that they would no longer be collaborating with DaBaby owing to his comments.
