Lapira was born in Queens, New York, and moved to New York when she was young. There are parts of her heritage that come from Filipino, Spanish and Chinese people, too. Forest Hills High School is in Forest Hills, NY.

In New York, she starred on stage and in small movies. For TV, she moved to LA in 2004.Lapira is a big fan of LA’s Best, which helps 28,000 kids in 189 schools in the poorest parts of Los Angeles get after-school help.

When CBS remade The Equalizer, Lapira was going to be the lead. She was going to play Queen Latifah and Chris Noth in the new show.
