The Undertaker Early Life
Mark William Calaway was born on March 24, 1965 in Houston, Texas as the youngest of five sons. He played football and basketball for Waltrip High School before attending Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas (115 miles northeast of Houston) as a basketball scholarship student in 1983.
Later that same year he transferred to Texas Wesleyan University to continue playing basketball while majoring in sports management; however after dropping out in 1986 he briefly considered pro basketball abroad but ultimately chose instead to focus on wrestling instead.
The Undertaker Career
Calaway made his professional wrestling debut for World Class Championship Wrestling on June 26, 1987 as Texas Red.
Later he joined Continental Wrestling Association and wrestled under several personalities such as The Master of Pain and Punisher before signing with World Championship Wrestling in 1989 under the name “Mean Mark Callous”, but changed it to “The Undertaker” when joining WWE in 1990.
Since then he has become one of the most beloved characters in wrestling, best known for “The Streak,” 21 straight victories at WWE’s “WrestleMania,” earning him 25-2 overall at “WrestleMania.”
Calaway has won 17 championships throughout his career. Within WWF/E, he is a four-time Champion, three-time World Heavyweight Champion, six-time WWF World Tag Team Champions, one-time Hardcore Champion and former WCW Tag Team Champion (during the Invasion angle).
He is a two-time USWA Unified World Heavyweight Champion and former WCWA Texas Heavyweight Champion, as well as having headlined multiple pay-per-view (PPV) events for WWE, including WrestleMania five times.
He is the only man to have headlined WrestleMania four different decades (the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s). Additionally, he holds the record for being the most prolific pay-per-view performer in WWE history with 174 matches – tied with his storyline brother Kane.
Personal Life
Calaway was married to his first wife from 1989 until 1999 and they had a son born in 1993. In 2000 he wed second wife Sara; this time it was during an ongoing feud between Calaway and Diamond Dallas Page that saw Sara acknowledged as Calaway’s wife.
The couple had two daughters together before divorcing in 2007. Later that same year he wed former wrestler Michelle McCool and welcomed their first child in 2012.
