Sukumara Kurup, the notorious criminal who faked his own death to collect insurance money, is one of India’s most wanted men. In fact, he is credited as one of the longest running fugitives in the country.
Sukumara Kurup was born in Alappuzha in Kerala in 1946. He joined the Indian Air Force as an airman and later moved to the Gulf to work for a marine petroleum company.
When he got married, he decided to take his wife Sarasamma with him to the Gulf, where she could secure a job as a nurse. It was against the wishes of his parents and family, but he managed to get his foot in the door.
He soon changed his identity and became Sukumara Pillai. In the early 80s, he hailed from a prestigious family in Alappuzha and had strong political connections on both sides.

There is no doubt that Sukumara Kurup is the most wanted criminal in Kerela. He has been on the run for over thirty years and has never been caught. Since 1984, the Kerala Police have been looking for him.
Sukumara Kurup was born in 1946 in Cheriyanad, Chengannur, Alappuzha. His father was a businessman and his mother was a house help. In 1970, he hopped on a plane to the Persian Gulf.
After completing his pre-degree course, he joined the Indian Air Force and was an airman. Later, he migrated to Abu Dhabi. However, he had not saved much.
In January 1984, a passer-by called the Mavelikkara police station and reported that a car was burning on the road. The cops arrived at the scene and found a charred body in the car. They suspected foul play and began an investigation.

According to Sukumara, his marriage with Sarasamma was a big mistake. As a result, his family had to pay the price. Initially, they thought that the two had converted to Islam. But later they discovered that Sukumara had converted to Hinduism.
After getting married, Sukumara moved to Abu Dhabi, where his wife worked as a nurse. This gave him a steady income.

Kurup’s family had strong political connections. They were also well off. Moreover, they were known for their good sense of splurge. Despite that, they were ostracised by their community. This is what led to a relationship with Sarasamma.
Kurup’s parents tried to put an end to their relationship. In the meantime, Sarasamma was in Mumbai pursuing a nursing course. However, she decided to return home after a three-year stint there.
She wanted to keep her relationship with Kurup private. Eventually, Sarasamma decided to return to the Gulf. A fresh passport was issued to her to go back.
