La Toya Jackson was born on May 29th, 1956 in Gary, Indiana to Joe and Katherine Jackson as the fifth of ten children born to them. As a child, La Toya often felt shy; spending much time alongside her mother preaching during services.

Jackson and Michael would often see her brothers knocking on doors around Los Angeles spreading the Word of Jehovah. In 1972, she joined their brothers in the spotlight with her tap-dancing routine while attending Cal-Prep in Encino, Los Angeles.

Jackson released her debut album in 1980 and reached number 26 on the charts. It included hit singles ‘If You Feel the Funk’ and ‘Night Time Lover.’ Over the course of the 1980s, Jackson would release four more albums: ‘My Special Love,’ ‘Heart Don’t Lie,’ ‘Imagination,’ and ‘La Toya.’

Jackson released her sixth studio album ‘Bad Girl’ in 1990 and followed it with ‘No Relations’ the following year. Unfortunately, under Jack Gordon’s management her career started to decline and in the 1990s she filed for bankruptcy.

In 1994, she released the country album ‘From Nashville to You‘ and then followed with Motown album ‘Stop in the Name of Love’ the following year. A few years after that she ventured into reality television with an appearance on ‘Armed & Famous’ in 2007.

After Michael Jackson passed away, she released the single ‘Home,’ dedicating it to him and donating its proceeds to AIDS Project Los Angeles. Additionally, in 2011 she served as guest judge on both ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ and ‘America’s Next Top Model.’

In 2018, she starred in ‘The Last Sharknado: It Was About Time’ and won $25,000 for Race to Erase MS while competing on Food Network’s ‘Worst Cooks in America.
