Jim Parsons Early Life
Jim Parsons was born James Joseph Parsons on March 24, 1973 in Houston, Texas to Judy Ann and Milton Parsons Jr. His sister Julie also shares the same last name. Unfortunately, Parsons’ father passed away from a car accident in 2001.
At the tender age of 6, Jim Parsons played the role of Kola-Kola bird in a school production of “The Elephant Child,” sparking his ambition to pursue acting professionally. Growing up, Parsons was heavily influenced by TV sitcoms such as “Family Ties” and “Three’s Company.” Jim had the unique experience of performing in a school production of Michael Frayn’s play “Noises Off,” during his junior year.
He said of this experience, “I became fully immersed in the role and started to understand what it meant to be honest onstage.” After graduating high school, Parsons went on to the University of Houston where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theater.
During college, he appeared in nearly 20 plays over three years. Jim co-founded Infernal Bridegroom Productions in Houston and frequently performed in productions at Stages Repertory Theater.
In 1999, Parsons was one of seven students accepted into a two-year classical theater course offered through a partnership between the University of San Diego and Old Globe Theatre. By 2001, he had earned his Master of Fine Arts in Acting from Old Globe Theatre/University of San Diego before relocating to New York.

In May 2012, The New York Times described Jim Parsons as gay and in a 10-year relationship. On May 13, 2017, Parsons wed art director Todd Spiewak at New York City’s Rainbow Room in what would later become his wedding ceremony.
In 2013, while accepting an Inspiration Award from LGBTQ organization GLESN, Jim spoke of their relationship: “I never considered myself an activist; rather it’s simply love: coffee in the morning, going to work, washing clothes or taking dogs [out]–just regular love.”
