Taika Waititi Biography
Waititi was the son of a Mori father who was an artist and a mother who worked as a teacher and was primarily of Russian Jewish origin.
When he was a child, his parents split, and he spent much of his childhood in Wellington, New Zealand, with frequent visits to his father’s house in Raukokore.

Taika Waititi Education
Waititi attended Onslow College in Johnsonville, a Wellington suburb, for his secondary education.
He went on to Victoria University of Wellington to study theatre (B.A., 1997).
He was a member of the five-person comic ensemble So You’re a Man while there, and later established the duo The Humour beasts with fellow ensemble member Jemaine Clement.
Waititi was a cast member of the TV show The Strip in 2002, and he made short humorous films during that time. Painting was one of Waititi’s other artistic pursuits.
Waititi went on to write and direct Boy (2010). It portrays the narrative of an 11-year-old (James Rolleston)
Who is being raised by his grandmother in a Mori town on New Zealand’s east coast in 1984 and has heroic fantasies about his absent father (Waititi).

Taika Movie Career
Waititi then adapted Christine Leunens’ novel Caging Skies (2004) into Jojo Rabbit (2019). The film is set in 1940s Germany and follows a young boy (Roman Griffin Davis)
who is a fervent Nazi who has Adolf Hitler (Waititi) as an imaginary friend, until he meets and befriends a Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) whom his mother (Scarlett Johansson) has hidden in the attic.
Waititi won the Oscar for best adapted screenplay for the dark comedy, which was nominated for an Academy Award for best picture.
He also directed the final episode of the first season of the Star Wars universe series The Mandalorian (2019–), for which he received another Emmy nomination, and he also portrayed the droid bounty hunter IG-11.
